Baby in Between (2)

April 7, 2009

● Researches show that the presence of somebody else in the room significantly improves the heart rate, heart rhythm, and blood pressure of babies (and similarly, of people in a coma).

Contrary to some belief that letting a baby or toddler sleep with the parents promotes child abuse by a parent, psychologists say otherwise.  Parents who develop a deep emotional bond with their children by being physically close to them during the day or night are far less likely to sexually abuse the children they love and cherish.

● You and your baby are both spared from needless tension.  You both get the rest you need and , thus, you awaken with a cheerful disposition.

If you do decide to have your baby sleep with you, here are some safety measures to prevent unfortunate incidents from occurring:

Place several pillows on the baby’s side of the bed.

Avoid using bed sheets that are too soft or too fluffy, as these materials may suffocate the baby.

Don’t allow a sick or intoxicated spouse to sleep beside the baby.

Keep a night light open.  That way, the parents can easily monitor the condition of the infant.

if you or your spouse is a restless sleeper, cont let your baby sleep in between the two of you.  The baby could get kicked or pushed.

It may be a bit uncomfortable for parents to share the bed with their child.  But come to think of it, in a few years’ time, your child will be away sleeping over at a friend’s house, spending the night in a camp or dancing the night away.  While you still can, you should enjoy every opportunity to bond with your kids!
